Money Savings…Your Car

With summer upon us we are all planning vacations. Some may be Staycations which have you returning home each night and some may be longer adventures. Most, if now all will require driving. There are some ways to save money now  on your every day trips to help with driving expenses as you vacation. Think about the following as you look for ways to save

Keep a travel journal. Keep a notebook in the car and every time you travel anywhere record the purpose for the trip and how many miles you traveled. Include every stop you make. A pattern will soon emerge and you will notice ways to further consolidate your trips and save money.

Carpool everywhere. Most people consider carpooling to school, or to work but it’s just as easy to set up a car pool to travel to the grocery store, church, club meetings, wedding receptions, baby showers, the gym and practices for sports and band.

Call Ahead. You can avoid unnecessary and time wasting trip by making a simple phone call. Call the store in advance to see if an item is in stock and how much it is selling for. You can get model numbers and all the information you need on line and call with specifics. Call and check on availability of items advertised on sale before you make the trip. Call to check on the availability of tickets for a hit movie to make sure the showing is not sold out. Use the yellow pages to check for additional stores selling an item you may want. I love to quilt and a few friends and I just went on a “field trip” using the yellow pages and discovered some new, great, fabric stores. The telephone is quick and cheap. Use it.

Work from home at least one day a week. If you can arrange with your employer to work from home you will not only save money commuting but also save on the wear and tea on the car and meals and snacks during the day. You will also discover the obstacles you may face when trying to work from home during a Pandemic self quarantine. A great way to practice.
