As for our General Store it is the end of the month and you should have been setting aside money each week to purchase canning supplies. If you are still in doubt as to how important these will be in the future you need to listen to the show tonight. Now is the time! Purchase something today! The links below will be a help in determining what you may want to purchase.

This week add 2 pounds of cheese per family member to your store shelves. This can be bottled cheese such as nacho cheese or chunks of cheese you wax or freeze.

Two questions today:

How do you get rid of gophers?

Do you believe we could see food riots in the United States, Canada and other industrialized counties? Why or why not? Remember there were no riots in Japan after the earthquake even though there were shortages. Tune in tonight for my answer.

Please also go to our facebook page to let us all know your answers.

I met Jeff Gleason, The Berkey Guy, at the Expo in Salt Lake and he graciously said he was going to send out a note in his newsletter to introduce Totally Ready to his friends. With all the new people checking in after the Expo I think it’s time to take a minute to explain what Totally Ready is all about.

After 9/11 and Katrina I realized it was time for me to do more than to just speak to local groups and teach classes about Emergency preparedness. I understood I needed to do more to help individuals learn to live a self reliant life style. There is plenty of information to help businesses and government entities but very little beyond basic checklists to help families with their efforts, thus, Totally Ready was born.

We are creating a General Store in our homes to enable us to handle any emergency large or small, from a job loss, to unexpected medical bill to a natural disaster or terrorist attach. Your General Store will help you be ready to handle any challenge. Last year we added food each Monday to stock our store. This year we are adding non food essentials, hygiene items and cleaning supplies. Because we have so many who have just joined our group I am repeating the food items each week as well as adding new items for those who have finished their food department.

We have also talked about how to save money during this tough economic time, preparing for a pandemic, the ins and outs of EMP attacks and solar flares, how to prepare if you live in the city, surviving when the power is out for an extended period and much, much, more. So, for all of you who are visiting for the first time, welcome. Spend some time looking around, ask questions, join our yahoo group and subscribe to our newsletter.

In our Yahoo group we have been talking about how many of us, and how many of our friends, are feeling an overwhelming need to prepare and prepare now. For our Berkey friends, and all our Totally Ready family who are feeling the time is here, I have decided to keep the cost of my new book at $12.00, at least for now. On a trip home from the Salt Lake City Expo we were caught in a storm and used the information in Totally Ready for the Road to make it safely home. Because I know many missed the first year of the newsletter I will also be extending the offer to send you a free copy of The First Year of Totally Ready Newsletters, all 144 pages, when you order a two year subscription for yourself or as a gift. Both the book and newsletter will make wonderful holiday gifts.

To build your own General Store this week add two pounds of cheese per family member. Cheese can be processed or stored in the fridge, freezer or waxed. Yes, we have had directions for waxing cheese in the newsletter so check out your copy from September 2009. It is so easy!

To build the non food section of your General Store add deodorant, one per each adult in the family, and 6 boxes of facial tissues or one box per family member, whichever is more.

Join us tomorrow night right after The Berkey Guy for the Totally Ready Radio Show, READY OR NOT. Tomorrow’s guest will be Jan Jackson, author of the book 100-Day Pantry. Jan will share ideas and recipes for using and rotating the foods in our General Store. Don’t forget 6:00pm Pacific time, every Tuesday. Call in with questions at: 347-326-9604.

Again, welcome to all who may be new. Please join us and feel free to make comments or suggestions for subjects you would like to learn more about.

It’s that time of the year when we are all beginning to think of the holidays and just how we can afford them this year. With the election still two weeks away we still don’t know if we all face big tax increases in January. Many of us are still our of work and many looking for more work to pay the bills. Unfortunately many of us still have foods in the fridge that look like science experiments. Let’s recover that money instead of adding it to the trash at the end of the month. Following are a few creative ways to use leftovers without the family suspecting a thing!

Twice “Baked” Potatoes
Left over mashed potatoes
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
4 strips bacon (could be left over also)
1/4 cup chopped green onion
1. Cook bacon and set aside to drain. Cool and dice.
2. Combine 3/4 cup of grated cheese, sour cream and green onions.
3. Combine warm potatoes and cheese mixture
4. Spray muffin tin with cooking spray.
5. Spoon potato mixture into cups making a small well in the center.
6. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and diced bacon.
Bake 325º until warmed through and cheese is browned

I remember when my nana used to make little tea sandwiches. She would make the first layer egg salad and the second ham spread. They were so yummy and just the right size for little hands.

Ham Spread
1 pound cooked ham
2 teaspoons pickle relish (dill or sweet…try some of both)
1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/4 cup creamy salad dressing (Miracle Whip type)
1. Cut ham into bite sized pieces.
2. Place into food processor, grind on pulse until very coarse.
3. Add pickle relish and pulse a few more times.
4. Combine mustard and salad dressing.
5. Combine ham and dressing and mix well.
Serve on crackers or make old fashioned tea sandwiches. Tea sandwiches are so much fun for a little girls tea party.
Option 2: Leave out relish and serve on toast topped with a poached egg. Really yummy!

Left over chili or taco meat:
Pizza: Using a store bought or homemade crust spread with meat, top with diced tomatoes, black olives and green onions. Sprinkle with grated Colby jack marbled cheese. Bake 375º until cheese is melted.
Nachos: Top tortilla chips with warmed meat, diced onion, olives, salsa, melted cheese and sour cream.
Potato Bar: Slice hot baked potato beginning and ending 1/2 inch from each end. Squeeze inward from the ends forming a bowl. Add meat, grated cheese, sour cream.
Taco soup: Combine 2 cans diced tomatoes, 1 can corn, 1 can tomato sauce, 1 can green beans, chili or meat. Heat through. Add more taco seasoning if desired.

Chili Tamale Pie
Left over Chili
1 Can corn
1 Can diced tomatoes
1 Small can diced chillies
1 Cornbread muffin mix
1 C grated cheese
1. Combine chili, corn, tomatoes with liquid.
2. Place in oven proof dish.
3. Make corn bread according to package directions.
4. Drain chillies and combine with corn bread.
5. Spoon cornbread over chili.
6. Sprinkle with cheese.
7. Bake according to package direction until cornbread is done.

Sounds yummy right? Have a favorite way to use leftovers? Why not share your recipe and be entered to win the great give away prizes.

Life really is getting harder for Americans, 10% of us are statistics on the unemployment roles, another 7 % are unemployed and have given up looking, and now we learn the the census has confirmed that for the first time in a generation American incomes dropped over the last decade. Between 2000 and 2009 incomes fell 5%. The median income is now less than $50,000 year. During the past year home sales are down 35% with foreclosures up 30%.

There are other concerns that make self reliance of vital concern to all of us. This week we experienced another huge solar event. To date these have damaged satellites but done very little damage to communications and electronics on earth. We are just entering the time when these are predicted to continue to increase in frequency and in size. If you have not read the post concerning solar flares and EMPs this would be a great time to take note. I have spent a few months discussing the possibilities on the blog and also in the Newsletter. We have talked about cooking off the grid in great detail and I have given you many recipes for Dutch ovens, foil dinners and more. With winter coming we will be exploring surviving the cold off the grid.

I attended a HAM radio conference this past weekend and one thing one the the presenters said was something I have been trying to convey for months. He said it so concisely that it will now become part of my speak as well. He said we think we will rise to the occasion but during an emergency we sink to the level of our knowledge. It is so true. We can only use the tools, skills, creativity, imagination we have learned when a crisis comes. If we have not placed ourselves in a position to gain knowledge and to learn skill we can not hope to suddenly have the ability to create a safe and secure environment for our loved ones. We have spent lots of time working on our General Store and that is a huge part of preparing but we must also know how to use and rotate those foods. There is so much to learn and with my book finished I promise we will again spend time learning more.

This week we are adding five pounds of protein per family member to our General Store. Protein can include canned or frozen meats and fish, beans, nuts, and nut butters. Again as in the past be sure to store a variety as we all know it is the spice of life! For those whose food shelves are full it is time to add cotton balls and cotton swabs. I know some of these things may seem unnecessary but remember we are not only storing for an emergency but for everyday living. With the economy in awful shape and the question on new taxes beginning in January we must prepare for all of our needs to be met. The same concept hold true for everything we purchase, stock items you use in your General Store and you never need to purchase them at full price again.

Tomorrow we have another great show planned with Jim Fleckenstein. Don’t forget, set the alarm, do whatever it takes to remember, and be there! Please have your questions ready. If you still have not listened to his first show on READY OR NOT you need to check it out. Don’t get caught like so many, and lose out on the money you are entitled to after a disaster. Every Tuesday 6:00pm Pacific at:

The economic news was horrible again today with a new budget deficit of 1.3 trillion dollars! That is unbelievable and very frightening. Even more scary is the fact that 21.4% of that was due to stimulus spending. Spending which has not created new jobs or improved spending power. Last year Germany, who is pulling out of their recession spent 3.4 % of their GDP on stimulus plans, we spent 6% and we are further in the hole then when the year began and far from pulling out. The stimulus plans last year cost every American $11,000.

From 2007 to 2008 food prices rose 43% on basic necessities. These prices have remained at that level and had grown even further. If you had stored food in 2007 you would have saved 43% on your food bill for those items and been able to replace them when they were on sale. Where else can you “make” that kind of return on your money. If your food storage plan has slowed down now is the time to ramp up your efforts again.

Another great radio show last night. Nicole spoke with us about the blizzard of 2010 in Baltimore. Check it out if you missed the broadcast. She had lots of tips for what she did that worked and also the changes she is making to prepare for this winter. You can check out photos of the blizzard and see for yourself just how bad it was at: preparesimply.com

Last night we also discussed the Self Reliance Expo November 5th and 6th in Salt Lake City. I’ll be there and I hope many of you will be too and that you will come and visit our booth. We have 6 tickets for the event and if you would like to win two of them please just add a comment to this post for a chance to win. For those outside of Utah, we also have a brand new cookbook by Kathy Clark, Dinner is in the Jar, check it out at http://dinnerisinthejar.com. Kathy will be my guest on the October 26th radio broadcast so mark your calendars now. Finally, we have a DVD featuring Janet Wayman who is an award winning Dutch oven chef. All you need to do to win any of these is to make a comment on ANY post on the blog. That’s right, just go back to one you have read and leave a comment or comment on any for the next week. Please specify if you would like a chance at the tickets or just the DVD and book, or all three. Each comment will count as another chance to win.

Scot and Maurine Proctor joined me for a conversation about the earthquake in Haiti last week on READY OR NOT. If you missed the show please take the time to listen. The situation in Haiti is still but you can help. There is one group which I can highly recommend as legitimate, who are working hard to build a state of the art hospital by January. Please take a look and consider making a donation. How about $12.00 for each of your own healthy, well cared for, loved and sheltered children? Check them out at: http://gifthaiti.org Be sure you go to .org as .com is another organization and I cannot recommend them as I know nothing about them. If you missed either show

Now for Makana’s tip:

I was at Walgreens today. I went in without A SINGLE coupon! I know, it is unheard of. But I wanted to talk about how, even without coupons, one can save. BIG.

Did you see in the paper on Sunday that Walgreens and CVS have ways to get items for free? In my paper there is a deal that looks like this:

Hall Refresh Lemon Raspberry Drops. 20ct. Sale $1. Register Rewards $1 = FREE!

Now, before you run out and ambush your local Walgreens, please keep in mind a few things. First, they may be out of stock. There was a woman that walked in the same time as me and she had a binder of coupons. I knew what she was doing! Thankfully there was 3 bags of Halls left. If you run into this problem, just ask if there are more in the back or when they will be restocked. I have three Walgreens close by so I will just stop in between my other errands and see if they are there. You are only allowed 1 item per transaction unless noted otherwise. Which is my second point. If you are going to STOCKPILE, you can do that but be aware that it will have to be accomplished in separate transactions. And in my last visit to Walgreens, I used my Register Rewards to pay for my items and did not get any back. That is called “rolling” or “rolling-over” . This was the first time it happened to me.

Are you confused yet?

Register Rewards. These are the paper coupons or “Catalinas” that will print out AFTER you buy your item. And they can be used on other items in place of “cash” at Walgreens. I keep them in my wallet rather my coupon bag. I have been able to use them when I am on vacation for those items that I always forget. And then I stay in budget while on vacation. A double bonus! The cashier will hand you your Register Rewards with your receipt. You will originally pay $1 for the Halls but you will be getting $1 back. And if you happen to have a coupon for the item, you are saving even more!

This concept is the same for CVS or any other Walgreens purchase. So even without coupons, you are able to save by shopping the sales and waiting for items to go to “free” or cheap. Happy Shopping!

DON’T FORGET TO MAKE THOSE COMMENTS!

Tonight we have an hour of radio news full of great information and several big announcements which will help to explain just why my posting has been a little spotty lately. Please be on hand to hear tips from a survivor of the 2010 blizzard in Baltimore. Nicole will share her insights and lessons learned. With winter rapidly approaching now is the time to prepare in case this winter breaks records in your area. Listen to READY OR NOT tonight 6:00pm Pacific time.

We really never know just what is in store around the corner. This was predicted to be a very bad hurricane season and with just a few weeks left it has been very mild. This has been predicted to be a very bad fire season in California and we are still very worried about what is really going to happen the next month. Yesterday there were wind driven fires around Sacramento. That is very unusual but since everything in California is tinder dry this year, not really surprising. Let’s face it we are not in charge and we really don’t know what is heading our way. You will hear from Nicole tonight about how she heeded warning to prepare years ago and it is now part of her family’s every day routine. When the warning came she had to do very little to turn a frightening scenario into an adventure. Yes, fire season is expected to be bad this year but even if it is not what have we lost by preparing? The real question is what have we gained? A sense of security for our children? Peace of mind for the adults? Added money in our pockets as we need to shop only when food and supplies are on sale?

This week add to those store shelves and as you do so remind yourself that no amount of money or gold can purchase food for you family when store shelves are bare.Food the foodies in the group we are adding 6 pounds of grain per family member this week. Grains may include, wheat, rice, rye, popcorn to grind into cornmeal, oats, pasta, flours and more. Store those you use and learn to use others that are less familiar. Store a variety. Even if you now have oatmeal every morning for breakfast during a crisis you will be frustrated if that is your only option. We all want to feel in control during a challenge and having options, even if you choose oatmeal every day, creates a feeling on empowerment.

With the cold and flu season approaching now is the time to add medications to our General Store. This week add over the counter medications for treating the symptoms of coughs and sinus congestion.

Dont’ forget tonight at 6:00pm Pacific time! Tune in!

We had a great radio show last night. Scot and Maurine Proctor joined me for a conversation about the earthquake in Haiti. What great insights they have. If you missed the show please take the time to listen. We so often move on with our lives after a disaster and forget there are still many, many who continue to suffer. In Haiti the saddest stories are those of the hundreds of thousands of children who are living on the streets or in orphanages. Yes, it is estimated there were 380,000 orphans before the quake and over 500,000 after. There are only 100 licensed orphanages in Haiti with each housing about 150 children. That leaves most living on the streets. The situation is very grim and with a corrupt government and so many scams claiming to help how can we trust? There is one group which I can highly recommend as legitimate who are working hard to have a state of the art hospital built by January. Please take a look and consider making a donation. How about $12.00 for each of your own healthy, well cared for, loved and sheltered children? Check them out at: http://gifthaiti.org Be sure you go to .org as .com is another organization and I cannot recommend them as I know nothing about the. If you missed the show please go listen today. Ready Or Not with Scot and Maurine Proctor

The colder weather is about to hit and that means an increase in home invasions by the rodents and insects trying to get out of the wet and cold. It’s a good time to stock up on mouse traps in your General Store. We have already stored insect sprays so you should be prepared with that but if you missed that week it may be time to go back to breakfast for dinner to free up money and stock up on all things anti insects. You may feel you have never had a problem and this is over the top but I assure you it is not. After a natural disaster insects, rodents, and snakes appear in places you have never seen them before. When a disaster disrupts or destroys their home they are looking for another and even your home, which may have extensive damage, provides a perfect refuge for them. Now is the time to stock up before everyone is looking for traps and sprays.

Fruit season is now ending but in many places pears, apples and even some grapes are still available. This week add 6 14oz. cans of fruit per person to your store.

This is short and sweet because I have just returned from a road trip.

Don’t forget to join us tonight for a visit with Scot and Maurine Proctor who will help us better understand the aftermath of the earthquake last year in Haiti and what we can do for those who suffered as well as what we can do to prepare out own homes and neighborhoods.

Last night we had a fabulous show. If you missed it you will want to listen today. We barely scratched the surface of all there is to know about preparing now to deal with insurance issues later. We hardly talked at all about after the disaster. Jim will be returning on October 19th so we can continue our discussion. Listen to the show now and have your questions ready for him on the 19th. If you are currently dealing with the aftermath of a disaster and going the rounds with the insurance company DO NOT sign anything until you have listened to both shows. Last night show:

http://www.bepreparedradio.com/category/prepper-podcasts/ready-or-not/

This morning the power went out so I decided to use the time to inventory my office. It took 20 minutes. I took some shots from a distance and then close ups of the books so you could read the titles. I opened every drawer and every cupboard. I have one set of art books published in 1888 so I opened the books and shot a picture of the publication date, author info and publisher info. If you have not been keeping up with our tips this month, and do none of the others, begin today to inventory your home. It is crucial to being able to rebuild later should the need arise.

Today I am very happy to welcome Makana as a regular contributor to the Totally Ready Blog. She will be sharing great deals as she finds them and also posting every other Wednesday. I have had several people tell me they have to begin using coupons and taking advantage of special offer because of the crummy economy so Makana has agreed to help. Here is her first post:

Halloween is quickly upon us and with that means a great opportunity to decorate and eat sweets This is one of my favorite websites. I am able to subscribe and get daily emails with ways to create cute decor without spending a lot of money

http://www.howdoesshe.com/free-exclusive-halloween-printables

You will have to sign up on the email list to get it. But if you are crafty or want to be or just like to get free printables for every occasion, then this is worth it.

If you don’t know what Zazzle.com is, it is a place where you can make customized shirts, bags etc. I thought it was a silly thing until I was surprised my McKay with my very own “Mommy of 1 shirt”. I have seen them in Boutiques and online and they are generally $40 at least.

Today you can get your $50 worth of things for $25. I know I am using mine for a birthday present and for a Christmas present.

http://www.groupon.com/r/uu8200556

And lastly, you can get a 16 page hardcover photo book for $10 from Pixable. That is a 67% savings. This is another great gift or something for you to have. It is on sale for $23.

You get $13 back in ECB, and with the coupon from this Sundays P&G insert of $10, you just got a free toothbrush!

Thanks Makana!

Tomorrow’s radio show is truly a must for everyone. We will be discussing what you need to do now so you will be able to rebuild after a disaster. It is extremely difficult to maneuver through the insurance maze after the lost of your home or possessions. We will share with you the experiences of a survivor of the 2003 San Diego fires. If you know anyone who has lost a home in San Bruno, CA…Colorado…or Herriman Utah please, please pass the word to them to listen. It is critical you begin the process armed with information so you don’t get left with only a portion of what you need to rebuild. Join Jim and me tomorrow at 6:00pm Pacific time. Please facebook, twitter, email, call, just share the link with all your friends and family. Ready or Not every Tuesday at 6:00pm Pacific!

This week if you are working on food, add 10 cans of vegetables per family member to our General Store. Remember variety is the spice of life! You may add the traditional veggies, or pickled veggies, sauerkraut, spaghetti sauce, artichokes, three bean salad, just be creative.

For those who have finished their food section add several gallons of unscented bleach. Bleach can be used to purify water or to clean up after a disaster as well as for everyday use. Some recommend powdered chlorine in place of bleach. The powder is very toxic and because I am always afraid of the kids and pets getting into it I like the liquid. You must decide for your family and get what you feel is the most appropriate. Liquid bleach does lose some of it’s potency after a year but that just means you need to add a little more.

Tip Number 27…we’re almost done with our thirty tips!

Do a little research and find out which TV and radio stations will broadcast emergency information in your area during a disaster. Post these where you can find them when the need arises as you will be stressed and will likely forget.

Tonight’s radio show and a presentation I am making tonight to our County Emergency Responders have me pulling my hair out today so I’ll get right to our tips.

First tip…listen to the show tonight! We are discussing saving money will shopping with Makana Hansen. It will be fun. She has some amazing stories to share! READY OR NOT
6:00pm Pacific time. Call in phone number: 347-326-9604

I have a real love hate relationship with texting. I hate, hate, hate texting at church, in school ,while driving, when out to dinner with friends and family, oh so much texting is just rude! Texting however can be great during a crisis. When cell phones are not working after a hurricane, earthquake, fire, terrorist attack, etc. a text can often get through. So it is with apprehension that I say tip number 21…” teach all family members to text”.

If you would like a copy of Joyce’s Moseley Pierce’s ebook All They’ll Need to Know to help you prepare your important documents get it at the special price for Ready or Not listeners at:

TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO WIN AN EMERGENCY KIT FROM HEALTHY HARVEST.

LISTEN TO THE READY OR NOT with Joyce Moseley Pierce FOR DETAILS !!!

Tomorrow I will host Makana Hansen as my guest on READY OR NOT . Makana is an expert on saving money when shopping. She will discuss coupon shopping, not only for groceries but also other items we purchase often, and even those we buy just for fun. Be sure to have your questions ready so you can call in or join us in the chat room. Join us tomorrow, Tuesday September 21st at 6:00pm pacific time.

Food prices are set to rise again. We have been hearing for some time about the disastrous wheat crops in Russia and Pakistan this year. Exports have been eliminated which has dramatically but world supply and increased demand. As a result of these crop failures prices are increasing on wheat in every other region of the world, including in the United States. Australian bee colonies are being destroyed by an African beetle which mean increased prices not only on honey but also on all the crops bees pollinate. None of this is good news for the pocketbook. We will just keep taking those small steps each week to prepare and the store our personal General Stores so we can weather the increases in price with little affect on our bottom line.

This week add insect spray to your shelves. The best time to reduce the wasp population is in early spring when you see your first wasp. I realize that is a long way in the future right now but if you have that spray on hand you can quickly kill those first wasps and save lots of headaches later. Wasp spray is also a great defensive weapon. You can remain 15 feet away from an attacker while spraying them and slowing them down. It may sound harsh but it’s better than becoming a victim. After a disaster you will have lots and lots of unwelcome creeping and crawling “visitor” so be prepared now to deal with them when they arrive.

For our store shelves we are adding 2 pounds of cheese per person to our store. Waxing cheese is easy to do and will preserve your cheese for years while it sits on a shelf in a cool, dark place. There are complete instructions in the September 2009 Newsletter.

Today’s Tip # 20: Place a flashlight and whistle next to or slightly under each bed in the house. It is a good idea, especially if you are in earthquake country, to place these in a plastic bag or other container which can be secured to the leg of the bed where it can be reached without getting out of bed.

Last month’s Foreclosure numbers are staggering. Nationwide there were 95,000 home foreclosures, up 25% from the numbers last year! The economy can not rebound until these numbers change dramatically. Food prices are still on the rise and no one really knows the implications of the wheat crisis in Russia. Please continue to stock up on food and learn to use and rotate the foods you store.

For those who may be new to Totally Ready I need to take a second to let you know we are not about fear here. We are about information so you can make decisions for your family which will enable you to be safe and to thrive no matter what challenges are thrown your way. As those who have been around for some time know, I have been concerned about a pandemic for several years. Then, it happened! However, the pandemic we experienced was not the dreaded H5N1 or bird flu, but rather the H1N1, swine flu. It was mild, which is actually a concern for me. I am worried everyone will now look at medical emergencies, such as super bugs and a pandemic flu as not a big deal. This is not the case. These can, in fact, be very deadly and we are still at risk for this emergency, historically, it is overdue. We still need to be gaining knowledge and preparing. If you are in need of great (ok I’m prejudice) information on how to prep for and treat medical emergencies, especially a flu, check out my ebook Prep Not Panic

“The drug-resistant bacteria are already a widespread problem in India, and all of the cases reported in the U.S. and Canada cases of this bug have been linked to people who recently received medical care in Indian facilities. Dozens of cases were also seen in Britain in people who had recently returned from India where they had undergone medical procedures. Because of it’s origins, scientists have named the gene NDM-1 after New Delhi.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. cases that occurred this year were seen in patients from California, Massachusetts and Illinois. And so far, the gene has mostly been found in bacteria that cause gut or urinary infections.

The CDC is urging doctors to look for the NDM-1 gene in people recently returning from India or Pakistan — countries that according to officials — have the right conditions for widespread transmission.”

It’s obvious we’re losing the war against these “superbugs,” even here in the U.S., and here are five reasons why…

1. Over utilization of antibiotics.

2. Using antibiotics as a “cure-all.”

3. Medical tourism.

4. Massive legal and illegal immigration.

5. Lack of research and development.
