This is turning out to be one of the coldest winters in the past 50 plus years. It is cold everywhere! There are many things you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones, but did you know?……
It is very important to monitor the body temperature of everyone in the family. If they are complaining of feeling cold there really could be a serious problem. The elderly and children under one year of age can not raise their body temperature as readily as others. They are less active and have slower metabolisms. They should never sleep in a cold room. They should be kept warm by using a higher heat setting in the home. The elderly and small children should be dressed well with their torso and feet covered. If you have elderly parents or friends check on them at least each morning and night and if they are on a fixed income and worried about heating bills be sure they have a portable heater or other method for staying warm.
It is important for every family member to eat well balanced meals to help retain body temperature. Meals and snacks should be warm during cold weather. Soups and stews are great choices. Caffeinated beverages and alcohol will cause a loss of body heat, thus, coffee is not a good drink of choice if you are feeling cold. Cider, hot lemonade, or teas are a better alternative.
Stay Warm! Please let us know what steps you are taking during this cold spell to protect your family.
Over at our Yahoo Group Stacy asked how to motivate or convince those you live with, who are not converted to self reliance, food storage and emergency preparedness to begin preparing. Please go over and add a few suggestions for her. With all the postings there the last few days I’m afraid her question was missed.
Also on our Yahoo Group, Craig mentioned the History Channel Show After Armageddon. If you missed it then set your recorder to see the show. While I’m sure all of us who have been studying and preparing will find things that could have been done better but there are always things we can learn and adapt.
