Yes, It’s Christmas week and we are all very, very busy but don’t let down your efforts. This week add six desserts to your General Store. So many mixes, canned pie fillings, sugars and everything dessert related are on sale this week, so now is the time to stock up. Candy is also on sale and makes a great treat during an emergency. Chocolate will freeze well and candy coated chocolate will last a long time in any cool place.
Again, it’s also a great week for fast foods, not fast food, but foods which almost cook themselves and are ready at a moments notice. So here are a couple of recipes for the crock pot. If it’s cold where you are put the crock pot in a room you want to help warm up, smells great and helps heat.
Crock Pot Chicken
1 whole chicken or chicken pieces
chicken bouillon
carrots
potatoes
broccoli
Clean chicken and place in crock pot. Add 2 cups water.
Sprinkle chicken with bouillon powder. Add carrots and potatoes that
have been peeled and cut into large pieces. Sprinkle with bouillon.
Set crock pot on high and cook 3-4 hours. Add broccoli and cook another hour.
So…simple and really good!
Chili Verde
Pork: tenderloin, roast, or tri tip
salsa verde 1 or 2 cans (not spicy just a matter of how much pepper taste you like)
2 cloves garlic crushed
1 large onion sliced
beef bouillon liquid
Cut pork into bite size pieces. Brown with onion and garlic in small
amount of oil. Add 2 C water and 2 bouillon cubes to crock pot.
Add all other ingredients. Cook 3-4 hours on high, or until tender.
Place on stove top and reduce liquid. You can just drain but reducing it
will enhance the flavor. Serve with warn tortillas, sour cream, salsa and guacamole.

Thank you for the recipes, Carolyn. Do we get six desserts per family or per person?
Sorry I didn’t address the number to buy. I was racing out of the house this morning. You buy six per family. Each should be enough to feed the whole family, so you have six days worth of desserts. I’m not sure but I think we now have about 15 days worth stored if you have been with us from the beginning. I’ll have the summary in the next newsletter and the goal is to have 3 desserts per week stored by the end of the year. Of course if you have a complete three month supply you can combine other items in your store to make dessert. Snickerdoodles are just flour, sugar, eggs, butter and cinnamon, all of which have been on our list of items to store.
