I’m so Excited About Our Changes For 2010!!…Our General Store and a Surprise Way in Which I Used Mine

Happy New Year everyone! I am so excited for this new year. I have so many ideas to help make 2010 the best year ever for all of us! The economy may get worse, there may be food price increases and shortages, we may see the coldest winter in more than 50 years, we may lose jobs or have hours cut but we will face them together and we will survive and thrive! I am working today to finish the first Newsletter of the year, finish the details for our first give away of the year, creating new features and announcements for new themes and goals for 2010. Please be sure to read your newsletters tomorrow and join me here to learn more.

Today, please continue your efforts in stocking your General Store. We are adding protein this week. Remember this can be meats and fish, either fresh or canned, beans, peanut butter or nuts. Remember nuts will need to be kept in the refrigerator or freezer. Add five pounds per person in your family.

We will complete the food portion of our General Store in just six weeks! Your March Newsletter will include a week by week plan for obtaining a three month supply in just 52 weeks, just what we will have accomplished. I realize many joined us late so this should help you catch up.

The week before Christmas I had the opportunity to use my General Store in a unique way and to teach several 20 something single adults just what self reliance really means.

This Christmas we had a group of Young Single Adults in our home for an evening of gift wrapping. This church group provides Christmas gifts for a few families in need every year, and this year we had seven families. We gathered in our home to wrap the gifts. As we proceeded, we realized some children in one family received great gifts while others might feel overlooked. As we began to make a list of things we would have to purchase, I retrieved a few boxes of new gifts stored in my attic. These were items I purchased at 60-90% off and stored for just such an occasion. By the time we finished, we had fabulous gifts for all and were left with just two gift cards to purchase to fill in the gaps. As we cleaned up the wrapping paper, one of the young men looked at me and said, “This is what preparedness really means, isn’t it?”

Yes Curt, this is what self reliance really means.
