Money Saving Tips

It’s officially spring! I really love this time of the year. Right now I have the cleaning bug. This can be a very dangerous thing.

1. Last night my husband suggested we find some things to list on ebay. Since I am in the cleaning mood and that means things get tossed maybe this is a good time to try ebay again. In the past I have had no, absolutely no, luck selling anything on ebay. I know people make money doing this but not me. If you have any suggestions you can share please share them.

2. Spring also brings school book fairs. Check these out for gifts. Publishers are closing out overstock at the end of a school year and you can get some great deals. You can stock up now for summer reading for the kids or for birthday gifts or Christmas gifts for your children, grand children, family and your children’s friends. They have books for adult reading at these fairs also.

3. This is the week you should be able to get really good Easter sales. Last week everything was 50% off but this week it should go down to 75% off or more.  Easter candy freezes well and will be great for vacation travel snacks and baking.

4. Now this tip I know works! Use less cleaning products than the label recommends. I had a manufacturer’s rep tell me they exaggerate the amount you really need to use to get the job done. I know it seems small but I tear my dryer sheets in half and they still work great. I use half the laundry detergent and dish washer detergent that is recommended and they work great. This is true of hygiene products such as shampoo also. And we all use far too much toothpaste to get the job done. Try this. I’m sure you will find as I have that there are lots of savings possible here.

5. Plant something you can eat. Plant some tomatoes, green beans or just some herbs. It’s a great time to add a fruit tree also. You really don’t need lots of space. My grandfather used to garden in containers on his patio. He always had tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and even radishes growing. It looked great and tasted better. I love tomatoes and he always had several varieties, yellow, orange, cherry and of course “Jersey” tomatoes. Yes, I grew up in New Jersey.

Happy saving! What is your favorite spring savings tip?
