The following information has reminded me we really do need to prepare for illness and the possibility of a pandemic. Statistically we are due for a major flu outbreak. We have become so concerned with the bad, no horrible economy that we may be failing to think about the other emergencies which could face us. Last week we talked about the foods to give as gifts which would help a family dealing with the flu. As you look through the grocery ads this week look for those foods to add to your food storage plan. Remember during a flu, any flu outbreak, one of the biggest causes of death is dehydration.
So, if you are going shopping this weekend think BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) and juices and flavored gelatin.
BRUSSELS, Oct 10 (Reuters) – Germany has informed European Union animal health experts of an outbreak of H5N1 bird flu, the EU’s first case of the lethal strain of the contagious disease in poultry this year, the European Commission said on Friday.
The outbreak occurred in the German state of Saxony, close to the border with Poland, the Commission said in a statement.
"Strict movement controls are in place. Poultry must be kept indoors, gatherings of poultry and other birds are banned, and on-farm biosecurity measures are strengthened," it said.
Yep, one more thing, but we’re not worrying, just preparing.
Just as all of my defenses were down about the Bird Flu! Why do we always get complacent when we haven’t heard about a particular threat for awhile?
This may be ignorant, but do antibiotics work against the bird flu or is it a virus?
Nice blog, I love to see this kind of content, keep up the good work.
My neighbor went to a fireside a few weeks ago in her mother’s stake (congregation) that focused on this very issue. Did you know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints actually has service missionaries called to educate the general membership about the probable flu pandemic. They do training with mission presidents, stakes, etc. Thanks for the reminder.
