We have been focusing for awhile now on preparing to live without power. WE have had natural disasters to stay on top of and the usual posts, such as Tips of the Week and Money Saving Tips have been absent. I felt it was important to focus on threats to the poser grid as it is expensive to prepare for outages. Dutch ovens, water purifiers and generators all take a big chunk out of the budget so I felt giving you plenty of warning of what could face us in the next two years would give you time to plan for those purchases and to make them. It’s time to get back to the tips that will enable you to be prepared in other ways and also help in freeing up funds to make more expensive purchases and to finish stocking your General Store.
This week we will reintroduce those weekly posts.
This week add a gallon of white vinegar and several pairs of latex gloves to your General Store shelves. Tomorrow we will discuss uses for vinegar other than cooking so this is not a mistake and not to be confused with the vinegar your have already stored in your food section. Vinegar will store just about forever so you really can’t have too much. Store gloves in several sizes as you will want help cleaning after a disaster and the kids, teens and all adults in your household will need gloves to be safe. Check out the dollar store for both of these items.
For those just joining our family and just beginning their food department add 10 cans of veggies per person to your store this week. As always if this is beyond your budget add as much as you can and remember it is more important to have a balanced two week supply for your family than to have a years supply of grains and not fruits, vegetables, proteins and dairy. Our food storage plan is designed to keep your family healthy while you face your challenge.
