TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO PURCHASE RAFFLE TICKETS…PLEASE HELP NOW
I hope you all had a terrific Thanksgiving with family and friends. I am traveling again today but for those of you very loyal followers of our General Store I wanted to make sure you had the whole week to purchase this week’s addition to your store shelves. This week you should add six pounds of grains. As we have discussed before I will never tell you exactly what to purchase for your family. That decision should be made based on the foods your family likes to eat and the foods you know how to prepare. That said, if you do not now use grains other than store bought bread and pasta or rice, it’s time to learn to use a few more varieties. Beginning in January we will concentrate a little more on ways to use a variety grains.
For now, store what you are currently using. For our purposes in stocking our General Store consider the following grains: wheat, oats, pasta, rice, brown rice, wild rice, flour, couscous, amaranth, barley, corn meal, cream of wheat, and crackers. I know there are many more. This week crackers have been on sale and they are a great items to add. I have broken out the crackers to make appetizers when I need a pot luck at the last minute, to keep grandkids quiet, to take on a car trip, and so much more.
If you are adding crackers or other grains in a box to your storage, use wide packing tape and tape off both ends of the box when you get it home. Your cupboard will then be protected from an invasion of moths. The larva is already in products when you bring them home from the store and taping the ends of the boxes will prevent the adult moths from escaping and contaminating other foods. If moths should hatch they will remain alive inside the box and when you open the package and discover them you can take them out to the trash and no harm will be done.
Remember to purchase your raffle tickets today and return tomorrow for news about a Special Offer for your Christmas gift list.
